Thyroid meds: The difference is mainly in the cost and availability.
If cost is not an issue - thyroid meds are not expensive to my knowledge - take what your doctor prescribes.

If the pharmacist tells you there are less expensive products they would recommend take their advice.

Only the name: Unithroid, Levoxyl, and Synthroid are all trade names for l-thyroxine (aka levothyroxine). The levothyroxine is the same in all the preps; dyes &amp; inert fillers may vary.

Potentially: hundreds of other meds might interact in some way with Synthroid. Your doctor can run an interaction check between Synthroid &amp; your other Rx's.  In general, however, if you take Synthroid 2 hours after and 1/2 hour before meals, other meds, mineral &amp; fiber supplements and antacids, you will avoid most interactions with Synthroid. See answer: Their bio-availability is not equivalent, however, insurance constraints and csot often require the generic levo.  As long as you are on the one drug, and your dr. Is following you regularly, you should have no major problems on the generic.

Yes: If you have been diagnosed with hypothryoidism, you can and should continue to take your synthroid while taking virtually any other medication including while taking isotrentoin.

Side effects: There usually are not many side effects of Synthroid. If the dose is too high however, then you may have weight loss, agitation, tremors, looser stools, sweating.

Generic vs.brand: I have no objections to generics. Most of my patients do just fine. There have been some reports that brand name thyroid supplements perform better than generics, though, in that the dose of the medication is more reliable in brands.

Yes, no problem.: These two medications have no interactions, they can be taken together. However, avoid taking Synthroid (Levothyroxine) along with food or coffee since these inhibit the absorption of the medicament.

Not really.: and you probably should NOT skip tomorrow's dose but take it at the regular time.
