Diabetes care: Forget the doctor for a bit and find a diabetes educator. They are excellent, knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. At your age you most likely have type 2 diabetes. If that is correct the diabetes educator will try to get you a point where you no longer have diabetes. Work hard at it and you can get rid of your diabetes. Go for it!

See below: Type 2 diabetes usually strikes after age 40. But it's on the rise in younger women, mainly because of obesity.

That means many women now have type 2 diabetes during their childbearing years. And that can be risky.

If you have type 2 diabetes and plan to get pregnant, see your doctor. You need a plan to keep your blood sugar level under control. That will help your odds of a healthy pregnancy

I : I agree with you that it sounds like you are doing a very good job overall.  I am glad that you are so active and can do your own yard work, and feel well.

I am concerned that you are so anemic.  A hematocrit of 30.2 is very low.  It needs to be determined if that has been worked up, and if that is a stable hematocrit for you.

Your a1c sounds like it has been improving but htat is stll quite high.

I agree with you that portion control can be very helpful, and it sounds like you are quite active so that will also help you.

Individualized: Hi. No one on this site can tell you that information. You need to talk with your doctor or see a specialist who deals with diabetes. The amount of Novolog you take for meals depends meal-by-meal on what your sugar is coming into the meal, what &amp; how much you're going to eat, and your current sensitivity to insulin. You need to be doing frequent glucose monitoring to keep it safe &amp; effective.

County Health Dept.: Check with your county or state health department.  Most of them have lists of low cost or free clinics available for people in your situation.  Also, check with st. Vincent de paul, salvation army, local churchs, medical or nursing schools, universities, etc., as they may have knowledge of clinics in the area.

Certainly should: Be just fine.  You will find that almost all physicians are altruistic, and charitable recognizing that their mission is to care for people before their finances.  Even though not advertised widely this a characteristic you will find in most physicians.

Sliding scale insul: This is a complicated question and we cannot prescribe with this type of consult.  I would check with your regular Dr if you can't get to Endo. They know you better than we do.  You can also go to uptodate.com and review what they recommend based on all of you health issues and other meds.

t1d 20 years. well-controlled sugars. a1c is 5.9. sliding scale humalog, lantus in morning and night. a couple months ago i no longer need my morning lantus. ive stopped taking it as ive been running low. what can cause no longer needing that dose?

: Changed your diet or exercise is most likely reason.  Keep diary and shared with your Dr.
