i have type 2 diabetes and copiously drink both coffee and tea.  however, i read recently that it is not advisable for diabetics to drink these beverages.  is there anything to this claim and if there is then what is the problem?

No data: There is no clear data on this claim. You should limit your coffee to 2-3 cups per day due to caffeine. Make sure to supplement wiht water.

High blood sugars: Type 2 diabetes is a condition with high sugars, due to Insulin deficiency, Insulin inefficiency. If uncontrolled, these high sugars will eventually lead to damage in kidneys, eyes, nerves and other blood vessel beds (heart, neck, legs, etc). Moderating dietary intake of carbs in type 2 diabetes is needed to control sugar levels. Chips and soda, with high carb content, will cause high glucoses.

Diabetes: Pop/ soda containing drinks such as coke, pepsi etc have fructose syrup, which acts like sugar in the body. Too much of it is obviously not good.

Vodka: Or any alcohol can raise blood sugar because it contains calories - 7 cal/gram. If you drink and then don't eat for several hours, you can develop low blood sugar -- so always drink in moderation if you have to drink, and do it only with food.

Maintain: Adequate hydration with any liquid, the fewer calories the better. Coke zero is fine if you like it. Don't believe the recent misinformed hype about artificial sweeteners. They didn't understand the article and what it said, which wasn't much.

High ferritin: Are you taking any iron? How high is your ferritin? If it is really high and you are not taking any iron, you should be evaluated for hemochromatosis especially in the presence of diabetes and liver disease. You could ask your doctor to do hemochromatosis  profile and if positive, you will need liver biopsy  and you will need members of family tested . Treatment is phlebotomy to remove iron.

i feel like my head is hot but i'm not running a fever though i checked my temp 98.1 i have type 2 diabetes and overweight. i'm getting tired of this on most days i started drinking 80 ounces of water with no flavored packets just pure water?

: Pl reduce the amount of water, keep sure your bl.sugar is in check and use an icepack to the temple area. If not better in afew days pl see your Md . wish you well.

Better than non-diet: If it is your habit to drink non-diet soda then the diet variety is clearly better.  Non-diet soda typically has high amounts of sugar that leads to unwanted weight gain and makes control of blood sugar more difficult.
