Still Possible: There is a slight risk of becoming pregnant after tubal ligation. This happens to about 5 out of 1, 000 women after 1 year. After a total of 5 years following tubal ligation, about 13 out of 1, 000 women will have become pregnant.

Tubal Ligation: A properly performed tubal ligation (or cautery of the tubes) will not interrupt the circulation to the ovaries.  If this is done, your ovaries are still producing hormones, and you will have menstrual cycles which will produce PMS with both ovulation and with your period.  Ask your gyn provider about low dose birth control pills, which stop ovarian production of estrogen.

Spotting w/Ovulation: Some women spot with ovulation . It does not matter if you had a tubal ligation. The hormonal change can trigger this. You may also have something else going on, so see a provider and check this out!

No: Accidentally having sex with a tampon in can be painful for you and might even cause you to spot but it will not injure your uterus or disturb your tubes. No worries!

No: Once you have had a tubal ligation the only treatment is putting the tubes back together surgically. IVF had gotten so much better that it is often used instead because the pregnancy rate is higher. Sorry I can't give you better news. Even with insurance these are often not covered.

Very rare: Although listed as a possibility, this is extremely rare.  These days most surgeons not only tie the ends, but also cauterize each side.  The chance of both sides coming untied and rejoining despite being cauterized is very, very low.

Open tube: If a Filshie clips falls off then that patient may be at risk of getting pregnant as the tube could potentially be open. If pregnancy is not desired an alternative surgery should be considered. Flishie clips are designed to stay on the body but if it can be retrieved and removed during a repeat surgery we would remove it
