Depends: The poisoning from black molds (unless in an industrial or farming occupation) is not a common problem.  Even if you are exposed to the toxins, the effects usually disappear within days after the exposure. On the other hand, if you have become sensitized or allergic  to the molds, the effects may linger forever.

Black mold: In humans black mold poisoning is controversial and usually mild. It may come from ingested of moldy grain but would be uncommon. Inhalation of balck mold spores can produce fatigue and allergy and temporary memory impairment in my experience by actual neurotoxicity is controversial.

Forgadaboutit: Avoidance is the only answer , there is no known effective de-tox program and a seriously toxic reaction to molds usually happens after extremely high exposure usually in an occupational environment and rarely if ever in the home environment.

Evidence lacking : Unfortunately, there is not a body of scientific evidence to support the concept that exposure to black mold causes specific symptoms or diseases. When I have a patient who believes they have this problem, i check them for mold allergies and encourage them to get their exposure problem resolved. I also check them for chronic infections and if they have those, i check immune function.

Mold is ubiquitous: If a person is not allergic to mold or have an immune deficiency, then inhaling mold spores will likely not result in harm.  If a person is having symptoms such as cough, wheeze, shortness of breath, chest tightness, persistent fevers, weight loss, etc, then an evaluation for lung or sinus involvement would be prudent.  A healthy person should not have a problem, but still a good idea to avoid.

YES!!!: Absolutely. Mold is a big problem and source of respiratory symptoms, allergies, and asthma. In many cases, the whole area effected must be removed and replaced. If may cost more now, put is will pay off in prevention of health complications in the future.

Bleach: You can spray bleach on all areas where you see mold, keep the area dry, vent it out and if possible fix the leaky windows.

No, don't worry: The most common black mold symptoms and health effects are associated with a respiratory response. Chronic coughing and sneezing, irritation to the eyes, mucus membranes of the nose and throat, rashes, chronic fatigue and persistent headaches can all be symptomatic of black mold exposure or black mold poisoning. If the area is very small, wear a mask and clean with a chlorine spray.
