Mostly no: Most forms of optic atrophy cannot be treated.  If associated with multiple sclerosis, steroid infusions can help.  If caused by thyroid nerve compression, then treatment of the orbital compression can reverse the atrophy.  Sometimes it occurs in associated with long standing elevation of spinal fluid pressure and will improve if the pressure is relieved.  A neuro-ophthalmologist can advise you.

Surgery: When stenosis gets particularly severe on the spine, enough damage can occur that the innervated muscles can get weak and begin to atrophy.  This can progress to the point if paralysis of the involved muscle group.  Surgery would be a strong consideration in that case.

No: Optic atrophy is caused by damage to the axons that carry information from the retina to the brain( the lateral genixulate body). Central nervous system does not regenerate so unless research into stem cell regeneration is successful atrophic optic nerves cannot be repaired.

Arrest inflammation: It is not possible to cure optic atrophy.  When due to multiple sclerosis, there are a variety of anti-inflammatory steroids and peptides that are used to arrest the inflammation.

Eval: Depends on whether the atrophy looks prenatal, normal brain otherwise. Work up for neuro developmental diseases...Deficiencies, thyroid dysfunction, etc.
