Call the JW: In our hospital we have a good relationship with jehovah's witnesses.  They have specially trained people that will advise you about blood transfusion and the ways that you can sometimes get around having to have a blood transfusion.  These specialists will work with your doctor or hospital so that you and they are informed.  I would rely on your specialists in your faith.

Clotting disorder: Fresh frozen plasma is given most often to give back or give additional clotting factors toa patient who needs them.  It can reverse the effects of high Coumadin (warfarin) levels, those with overwhelming infecitons and major trauma who use up all of their clotting factors and are bleeding or at risk of bleeding.  It saves lives.  Another reason to give blood if you can.  We need lots of these products.

Antibody-Ag reaction: A transfusion reaction is a reaction between donor RBC (red blood cell) antigens introduced into a recipient which has antibodies to at least one of these antigens.  Depending on the antigen, the reaction can be mild. Moderate, or severe.  A classic example is an rh reaction, where rh positive blood is given to rh negative recipient.  This can be a mistake or in massive transfusion.

No.: MGUS is not a disease per se.  It is an abnormal antibody in blood by definition not caused by  serious diseases like myeloma or lymphoma and therefore is not treated.  It's importance is that MGUS has an annual cancer risk of 0.1 - 1%.

See below: Carl Walter and W.P. Murphy, Jr. introduced the plastic bag for blood collection in 1950.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

Low: Due to the potential side-effects and risks of transfusion and the chronic blood shortage the us has, most would agree that transfusion should occur only if the hemoglobin is less than 8gm/dl (normal 12-16) or at any level if the patient is symptomatic or if there is significant active bleeding.

Good diet: Foods rich in iron include:
Red meat, Pork, Poultry, Seafood, Beans, Peas, Dark green leafy vegetables, such as spinach, Dried fruit, such as raisins and apricots, Iron-fortified cereals, breads and pastas.
Your body absorbs more iron from meat than it does from other sources.

~  hemoglobin 7!!!: Depends on your overall health status. If symptoms present, may need transfusion earlier. Usually for many, hemoglobin of 7 grams is the threshold. But what is the cause of the anemia and can it be treated without having to do blood transfusion is something that your doctor may be able to answer.

Below 7 gm Hgb: Normal Hgb is about 14g/dl;  When the Hgb drops to 10 g/dl one should improve diet high in iron or take FeSulfate. At 7-8 gm one may try Epogen (epoetin alfa).  Should there be signs of further lowering then transfusions should be initiated to at least restore to 10 g/dl level with further attempts at improvement in the Hgb level.

It depends...: What's the cause? How quickly has the hemoglobin dropped/is there any ongoing bleeding? Is there evidence of inadequate tissue perfusion? What other acute & chronic medical problems does the patient have? In critically ill patients who aren't bleeding, a hemoglobin as low as 7 g/dl is generally well tolerated. Decision to transfuse should be based on desired physiologic effect, not on a number.
