Herpes simplex: Don't know how you were tested, but most often this is a clinical diagnosis based upon the mode of presentation of the lesions. Treatment, unless begun immediately after onset is seldom effective in shortening the duration of symptoms. You don't say where the infection occurred, but am assuming genitally, in which case you might want to be tested for other stds. Hope you are well soon.

Caution: There are no non-prescription medications for use in a nebulizer. Normal saline is available over the counter &amp; is a good wetting agent that may help a kid who has thick secretions. It is imperative you know how to and keep the delivery system clean or you can make baby sick. The kids doc can decide if and what prescribed meds would be a proper depending on the situation.

Resistance &amp;Exposure: Like any other viral (or bacterial ) infection the host has to be susceptible to the infection and the exposure must occur in a place that harbors the infections (mucous membranes for example) Some people develop antibodies to certain infectious agents and therefore when exposed never contract it. Herpes lasts 7 to 14 days as a natural course.

Depends: Chest congestion if primarily from irritation of infection to the respiratory lining. Either the bronshial tubes or the alveoli.  Some times an OTC decongestant can help. However , ofthen the process is a bronchitis and needs an antibitotic .
