Athletes foot: Sounds like you have a fungal infection called Athletes foot. Try some over the counter athletes foot cream as directed. If it doesn't get better in a week or if you have diabetes then you should see a health care professional for evaluation. Could also be from too tight shoes. Wear sandals for a while instead.

when i sit with my feet down or stand my toes start turning red and they start to burn/throb until i sit with foot up then it goes away?

Accepted Answer

Dependancy: Rubor on dependency (red toes with feet down) with subsequent burning or pain is a sign of Peripheral Vascular disease. This may be a mild symptom or more serious. Smoking, anxiety and temperature changes also effect small vessel disease. If dependent swelling (edema) is also noted then support hose may be helpful. Avoid tobacco, temperature extremes and non-supportive shoe gear.

Consult dermatology: Without the symptoms of redness, itch or tenderness, one has to consider a systemic dermatological condition.  A dermatology consult may be necessary.  However, your pcp or a podiatrist may begin a work-up with a biopsy and bloodwork.

i have redness between two of my toes. it doesn't look like a cut and i don't where i got it from. but it hurts and it looks bad. how would i treat it?

Toe irritation: Try otc anti fungal cream such as lotrimin (clotrimazole). Often can get a yeast ( tinea) infection in between skin of toes.  If not improving get evaluated. If you are diabetic, see your doc asap as diabetes increases your risk of foot infections.

i have pain in my left toe and some redness on top. pain is unbearable the first days i couldn't walk and felt like it was broken?

Varies: Did you injure it with a mechanism of injury severe enough to cause a break.  Has there been anything rubbing against it to cause a pressure sore or callus?  Is there any sign of infection like drainage from it it redness spreading up the foot?  A detailed exam and appropriate studies would likely reveal the cause and the appropriate treatment.

You might try: an OTC (over the Counter) ANTI-FUNGAL cream/lotion....ask your pharmacist... Keep your feet warm and dry..wash daily!

It's : It's hard to say without examining you whether you actually have an infection, an ingrown toenail, or another problem going on with your toe.  Give your doctor a call and have them take a look at it.  If your primary care doctor is unable to help you, you may want to contact a podiatrist in your area.  If it is an infection, you may need antibiotics.  If you have an ingrown toenail, they can cut out the piece of the nail that is ingrown - sometimes at the root of the nail - and apply a medication to stop the nail from re-growing in that spot and becoming ingrown again.

In the meantime, make sure you are soaking your toe in warm water 2-3 times a day for 20 minutes at a time. If it is worsening instead of improving, or if you have increased redness, swelling, pain, drainage, or fever, call your doctor immediately.

how long does it take for swelling and redness to go away after getting a swollen toe? mine is still red and a little swollen after stubbing it 2 and a half weeks ago?

: Your toe should not still be red and swollen after 2 and a half weeks. It is important that you see your doctor or podiatrist immediately, especially if you are a diabetic, before you lose your toe.
