Floaters: Since they go away with blinking, the dots may be caused by dryness on the surface of your eye.  Allergy with tiny amounts of mucus can also cause that symptom.  Commonly, thin strands of connective tissue that run through the vitreous jelly in the back of your eye cause these symptoms, but in that situation the dots float away with change in direction of gaze, not so much with blinking.

The : The back of the eye is filled with a jelly call vitreous.  As we get older it tends to break up and clump into little floaters.  These often present similiarly to your description.  Most of the time these go away with time.  It is a good idea to get an eye exam if this is a new problem becuase a few patients with this problem can develop a retinal detachment.  Although commonly referred to as floaters the fancy name for this is a posterior vitreous detachment.  A link to the page at the american academy of ophthalmology below goes into more detail.  Other problems can present as above but this is the most common finding when a patient presents with a similiar story.

This is a situation where the vitreous(jelly) of the eye detaches (not a retinal detachment), it then "crumples" up leaving dots, spots, strands of blurry vitreous; i.e. The "floater".  When it pills away, it causes flashes. You should have an exam to ensure the incident did not tear the retina, which could lead to a retinal detachment.

May be serious: Bright dots are potentially a sign of a retinal tear or detachment and immediate evaluation is indicated.  Other possible causes include intraocular inflammation and stimulation of the retina due to normal aging changes of the vitreous gel in the back of the eye.  If you are currently seeing bright dots, call an eye doctor immediately.

See below: It could be a retinal tear or detachment, an ocular migraine, a vitreous detachment, among other things. You must see an ophthalmologist. Preferably a retina specialist, right away.

You can't: If you have significant scratches on your glasses, you will need new glasses.  They cannot be removed or repaired.

Floaters: Most floaters in the vision are quite benign, but if large bursts of floaters suddenly appear in your vision, it could be due to serious retinal detachment. An ophthalmologist can examine and advise you best and give you peace of mind.
