Post nasal drip: That annoying dry cough is from your nose. Try over the counter nasal wash, nasal spray. Okay for throat lozenges, chew gum and keep your mouth wet. Be well.

right after my flu went away i developed a tickle in my throat which causes me to cough. its been 3 weeks and it has not gone away. is this normal?

Accepted Answer

You could have a: Little residual post nasal drip. Neti pots can 
help. Mix ¼ tsp salt w 1 cup lukewarm water. More salt can also be used. Place solution in neti pot. Tilt head ; pour solution into 1 nostril. Blow nose lightly ; spit out any liquid that drains into throat. Repeat on other side. This can be done in the evening before you go to bed ; again in A.M.

had a cold a month ago now i'm left with a tickle in my throat that causes me to cough aggressively daily. it stopped for a week and came back.why?

Ongoing drainage: If your sinuses are draining and you are swallowing or aspirating into the lungs you will cough.  See your doctor to determine if your proper diagnosis and if you need prescription treatment.  If you have already been treated for strep you may have a secondary viral infection or gotten reinfected.  See your doctor and feel better soon.

i have a tickle in my throat that causes me to cough. it's very dry and been about a week, worse at night. occasional ear pain. what could this be?

Post nasal drip: Have your doctor call in a nasal steroid spray and use it once or twice a day. It will take about 3 to 5 days to resolve. Try delsym cough syrup at night to help with the night cough. If this does not work,  try reflux meds like Pepcid ac  or zantac after a few days. Hope this helps!

Might be the BP med: Lisinopril sometimes causes a persistent non productive dough. Ask your doctor to look into this.

Throat tickle: It can be side effects of blood pressure medication  such as  ACE inhibitors or diuretics,  allergy, constant throat clearing and habitual cough. Please see ENT for laryngeal examination.

i have a sharp pain in my front lower left rib cage when i cough, i also have a small tickle in my throat which is causing the cough. any ideas on what this might be?

Cough related: Your rib cage pain may be cough related, but the underlying cause of your cough should be determined. 
Place a heating pad on the rib cage, monitor for fever, drink clear liquids and if the symptoms continue please see your PCP.

Acid reflux: Yes. Sounds like you are having laryngospasm from laryngopharyngeal reflux. Take prilosec 20mg two or three times a day, no late meals, limit caffeine, smoking, alcohol, spicy foods

Viral syndrome: It sounds as if you've contracted a viral syndrome.  These are usually self-limiting but if your symptoms get worse, see your doctor.

Consider Papaya: Mild tickle in throat is often related to mild irritation from environmental allergens/irritants.  When pain is not severe, consider trying papaya enzyme tablets.  They are safe, natural and many of my patients relate symptomatic improvement in throat symptoms.  If pain is progressive, persistent or associated with systemic symptoms such as fever, consider seeing your health care provider.
