Not uncommon: It is not common, but it certainly occurs. Teens can have autoimmune thyroid disease (hashimotos or graves disease) and the thyroid can enlarge and get lumpy.  Thyroid cancer can occur, but is much less common. Blood tests of thyroid hormone, thyroid antibodies, an ultrasound with possible biopsy, maybe a thyroid nuclear scan, are all tests that your endocrinologist would likely order.

•Muscle aches, tenderness and stiffness 
•Pain, stiffness or swelling in your joints

See your doc: Make sure you see your doctor for an evaluation and any diagnostic testing that needs to be done (such as xray to evaluate for scoliosis or stress fracture causing slippage of the bone or other spinal condition, lab work etc). If your pain is just muscular in origin consider seeing a physical therapist for a stretching and strengthening. Neck pain can definitely trigger headaches. See your md.

59 year old. shotty cervical nodes since teens. just felt neck & have 2 small pea size in left neck cervical chain. movable & not tender. it just seems like i can feel them better again. i did have a cold last week. is that size, normal? worry?

: That size is normal. Nodes are often easily felt in locations like the head and neck when they are not buried in fat or muscle.

Skin condition: Please see a dermatologist.  Your family doc can refer you.  Please avoid all skin products containing alcohol because it will dry the skin.  Cosmetics can contain lead and other toxins.  Ask doc about safest cosmetics.  Peace and good health.

Not simultaneously: Hi. Yes, you can, but not simultaneously. For example, treatment of Graves' disease often renders the patients hypothyroid. Hypothyroidism can sequentially follow hyperthyroidism. Same for a self limited process called a subacute thyroiditis - hyperthyroidism followed by hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism can be over treated causing hyperthyroidism. Hyper and hypo cannot be present at the same time.

Usually hypothyroid: If your thyroid is not working (hypothyroidism), the hormones can easily be corrected with levothyroxine.  Routine blood tests monitor the dose.  If you are hyperthyroid, your doctor needs to determine the cause.  Some causes resolve spontaneously, and others require thyroid suppressing medication, or radioactive iodine, or surgery.   These treatments is best discussed with an endocrinologist.
