MRI doesn't: Use ionizing radiation (used with ct scans and plain x-rays studies). It uses magnetic fields to make images and these have not been shown to harm the human body. That said, patients with certain kinds of pacemakers and other implanted devices can't be imaged with MRI because of the potential to disrupt the device or otherwise harm the patient.

Too many: Side effects depend the area of the body which is being radiated- dry mouth & mouth sores (oral cancers), diarrhea (pelvic radiation), shortness of breath (lung radiation), hair loss (brain radiation), stomach ulcers and bleeding (stomach radiation). General side effects can include severe fatigue, low blood counts, skin rash and discoloration.

Too many!!!!: Chemotherapy may cause hair loss, nausea, vomitting, diarrhea, mouth sores, low blood counts, severe infections, kidney damage, nerve damage, liver damage, heart damage, memory changes, constipation, skin rashes among other side effects.

Yes: Amifostine protects good tissue during radiation in certain cases such as head and neck cancers.  It has not been shown to also protect the cancer which is a good thing but there is the concern of using protectants while you are trying to kill cancer.  But we use radiosensitzers more often than protectants because we want to have a better effect in killing the cancer.

6-8 wks: Following radiation to an organ site, there is a certain degree of edema and scarring.  Like going into heavy sun and receiving sunburn.  Effect not the same day after sun exposure but builds up over several days.  If surgery needed to an organ receiving RT, one needs 6-8 wks before side effects minimized so that following resection, suture repair can be employed with minimal side effects.

Assuming you mean: Effects of radiotherapy when the mouth is being radiated? Dry mouth, then oropharyngeal mucositis, usually worse when chemotherapy is added.  It is the reason i advocate a peg feeding tube before embarking on therapy. Swallowing functional impairment  is the late effect.

Radioactive Dyes or: 'tracers' are special dyes usually given through an IV as part of a nuclear medicine study.  Tracers contain a small amount of a radioactive isotope that decays naturally over time and is eliminated in the urine and stool.   Most nuclear med procedures are painless except for mild discomfort associated with the iv.  Allergic reactions to tracers are rare. Inform the tech if you could be pregnant.

Urinary, bowel: The exact side effect profile will depend on the type of radiation treatment you are getting (external beam to the prostate, external beam to the prostate and pelvis, brachytherapy, combination of brachytherapy and external beam).  Typical acute side effects include irritation of the bladder (frequency, urgency), possible increased number of bowel movements, possible fatigue.  These are temporary.

Bowel & bladder :(: Fatigue(alleviated by rest), transient bowel and bladder irritation it is a common side effect. One may urinate or desiccate more frequently and may have some irritation related symptoms that are short-lived. They are typically managed well with medications.  Uncommon and rare side effects are significant dysuria, obstruction of the urinary flow. There are medications that help with this.

Radiation toxicities: The short term radiation effects depend on the location of treatment.  Most common are diarrhea and skin erythema (pink sunburn type effect).  Fatigue is also common.  It depends on what organs are hit by the radiation therapy.  Late effects are fibrosis (thickening of the tissue) and premature aging of the tissue. Permanent tanning of the skin can also occur. Ask your local radiation oncologist.
