A key distinction...: Between addiction, which causes you to crave increasing amounts and lose control over your willpower, and physical dependence, which simply means that your  body receives the beneficial effects of the medication and becomes unbalanced when it is gone. Some examples of medicines that your health becomes "dependent" on and you will feel unwell if you stop taking them are insulin, thyroid meds, etc.

Ativan (lorazepam) Withdrawl: This is a benzodiazepine and you can have withdrawal, shaking, anxiousness, even seizures.  We use these medications, such as ativan, (lorazepam) serax, and Librium to withdraw people from alcohol.  Slowly reducing the dose will prevent most of the withdrawal symptoms, and more rapid withdrawal can be done in a treatment program.

: There are a lot of factors that affect whether or not you would have withdrawal symptoms. One is how much and how often you were taking the medication? If you were going long periods of time without a dose, you may not experience withdrawal. You may still experience withdrawal symptoms over the next 24-48 hours or so. You may still have medication in your system. So, there are many factors.

Opioids?: None or very mild symptoms if you decrease your dose gradually - if you stop suddenly you may develop abdominal pain, tearing, runny nose, salivation, nausea, headache, diarrhea, muscle pain , restlessness / agitation. Talk with your doc.

Crystal Meth: It is very difficult to overcome crystal meth addiction and it is not recommended to try this on your own. Please consult with a Psychiatrist who may decide that you first go into a rehab program to detox and later prescribe outpatient medication.

I'm uncertain that what you've heard about venlafaxine is accurate, but it is a medication that should be taken with continual guidance from your doctor. It works a little differently from other antidepressants and treats certain disorders effectively.
