I : I can understand your concern, but please do not restart the pills without talking with your gynecologist.  After a certain age, birth control pills can be risky, including for women with any cardiovascular risk factors (for stroke, heart attack, etc), and especially in women who are smokers or if they happen to be overweight.  Please see your doctor and have an examination and discuss your risk factors for oral contraceptives.

Yes: Birth control pills prevent ovarian and endometrial cancers.  Cervical cancer is increased due to most pill users do not use condoms and are more at risk for hpv infection which can cause cervical cancer.  There is a small increase in breast cancer with more than 10 years use, but these patients tend to have a much less aggressive form o breast cancer.

Much more than!: The increased risk of cervical cancer from use of birth control is tiny, if at all, depending on what studies you read. However, the hpv vaccine reduces your risk of cervical cancer by 75-80%, so it is way better! you figure if there is an increased risk of 1-2% from birth control pills, or even it was as much as a 5-10% difference, (which no way it is), then the vaccine really wins out.

It depends: If the cancer is an estrogen dependent cancer, then the risk of pregnancy has to be balanced with the contraceptive pill's estrogen contribution to further cancer enhancement. If it is not an estrogen dependent cancer, then the use of the pill prevents an unwanted pregnancy in the midst of a serious medical life condition and its' use is very prudent.

LESS STIMULATION OF : The uterus is continually stimulated except during pregnancy, and less stimulated on low dose birth control treatment.

Because they do not.: There is no evidence that birth control pills cause cancer - the opposite is true; they prevent ovarian cancer on long-term use.

No: In fact oral contraceptives has been found to decrease your chanes of ovarian cancer the longer you take it.If you have a long history of irregular periods the regulation with OC could also decrease the chances of endometrial cancer.

: At age "49", increased estrogen is generated by aging eggs needing more pituitary stimulus for ovulation to occur, and the amount of estrogen in low dose oral bcp's is much lower than that made in the stimulated ovaries without use of bcp's, the use of which stops ovarian production of estrogen.  Mammograms are more accurate with less breast stimulus while on low dose oral bcp's.
