Viral infection: A cold or a viral upper respiratory infection may produce the symptoms you have.  The chills probably means you are running a moderate fever.  The emesis (throwing up) goes along with this flu-like syndrome.  In general, your immune system needs to overcome this.  But the nausea and vomiting can be treated with drugs like zofran (ondansetron) or other anti-emetic meds.  See your doc for specific diagnosis.

Not the Flu: It is the wrong season in Florida to have the flu or other winter time viral illnesses.  So, this is much more concerning and could represent infection that needs treatment. Please get to the doctor in the morning if you are not any better.

With fever you say?: "Plugging up" diarrhea will not cure an infection, fix an inflammatory process, improve an ischemic gut, or correct a functional issue.  Medical evaluation is recommended asap given fever esp. if persistence of symptoms. Any other associations (bleeding, weight loss, pain, vomiting), as well as other medical co-morbidities? Potential dehydration risk here, so best not to wait to get checked.

Gastroenteritis: The question is whether you both have a viral gastrointestinal infection rather than food poisoning. Either way treatment is simply rest, intake of adequate fluids including flat ginger ale which settles the stomach, and use of Tylenol for aches,pains and feverishness. Diet should be light with broth, salitine crackers and advancing to soft,bland foods. Symptoms should resolve in a few days.
