is contrast absolutely necessary during soft tissue neck mri for evaluation of mass? i had very unpleasant scary symptoms last time i had contrast.

Tell the MRI folks!: I tend to defer to the radiologists to tell me the best technique or study needed to find what i'm looking for. But if contrast is needed, be sure to tell te MRI techs and doctor what you experienced before. If you had an allergic reaction, they will want to be prepared - and possibly medicate you in advance to keep you safe.

what to do if i have a huge mass on the back of my neck on the right side. i also have extreme fatigue and many other symptoms. any ideas?

Get checked: The huge mass could be an enlarged abnormal lymph node which could be causing the fatigue and other symptoms.  It is also possible that the mass is an abscess which needs to be drained and that the infection is causing your symptoms.  See your doctor for thorough evaluation!

visible non tender mass on left side of neck for two months. ct showed two lymph nodes 10 x 6 mm in same area. no signs of infection, no symptoms. what kind of follow up recommended?

If: Reactive lymphadenopathy, should go away, if persist, enlarge or grow, should be biopsied.

Too long with sympt.: It would be highly unusual for a thyroid nodule just bred to your breast area. They are two separate issues, you mentioned in your history that you have some type of breast abscess. This needs to be further explored, because that can lead to a local and deep infection, so that needs to be treated first, so that the rest of the swelling can go down around that area. Get a second opinion from an integrative doctor, who can offer additional perspectives.

Throat mass: There are a lot of things that this could be.  The first step is to have it evaluated so that you know what it is.  Removal would obviously depend on what it is.  The specialist who deals with masses of the throat is an ear, nose and throat specialist or an otolaryngologist-head and neck surgery.  Best of luck to you.

Phlegmon: A phlegmon is basically an early abscess, often involving a lymph nose that was draining an infection. Usually, antibiotics are enough, but if your symptoms progress, it may indicate that you have an abscess that needs to be drained.

Depends on where : From the point of view of anatomy where exactly it is will determine what it may be. Certainly a large lymph node may be a good thought . So it depends on what the doctor reading the study says compared to the throat. Best talk to you doctor. Also a CT may be needed to really see what is going on.

been losing sleep for a week, mass feeling in throat, constant awareness of breathing, and continuous waking. could this be sigh syndrome?

Reflux: This could be acid reflux, obstructive sleep apnea, or a mass in the throat but somewhat less likely given your age. I would try otc Tums (calcium carbonate) or Prilosec and see if it helps your symptoms. If not see an otolaryngologist to perform a laryngoscopy.

dr found mass above (not on) my thyroid. after a 2nd apptmt he suggested an ultrasound of my throat. it doesn't hurt. what are the possibilities?

Several: Could be an enlarged lymph node from infection or tumor. Could be a cyst of the thyroglossal duct or brachial cleft cyst.

4 y/o sick a lot with large white mass in back of throat behind tongue under the uvula. not on sides. another mass on front of neck meds didn't help.

What meds?: This sounds like she may have a throat infection. If she has gotten antibiotics and not responded then it may be a viral infection or abscess. See your pediatrician.
