Treatment: You treat them by taking them to the doctor to make sure they dont have a strep throat. Once that is determined you can give them ice cream or popsicles or have them gargle.

Diet v meds: Mild symptoms can be managed by avoiding acidic or spicy foods, caffeine, alcohol, not eating 3-4 hours before bed, and eating smaller meals.  If these measures don't help then otc antacids such as ranitidine or omeprazole.  If not better in 4 weeks see md.

Dr. can re-check: Throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from other causes such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly. A rapid test swab can detect strep in 5 minutes. One must be sure to tell the doctor if any oral sex activities.

Prob not adenoids: Unless you are a kid your adenoids are prob not the problem. I would suggest seeing an ENT doctor to have your airway examined. Unless you have a fiber optic scope a photo will not help that much.

Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to check for strep). "Massive pain" needs his doctor or the ER to check now.
