Obgyn visit: It sounds like you are under the care of an Obgyn since you had a recent sonogram and endometrial biopsy. Confirm with the doctor that these tests were normal. If so they might want to change your Prometrium or other hormone replacement products to help with irregular bleeding

First day of menses: Cycle day one is the first day of your menses, and normally it will be full flow and bright red. In most cases women will not spot prior to their menses with dark brown or pink flow. That is more common at the end of your menses.

Possible: You may consider getting a serum HCG (blood pregnancy test) which is more accurate than a urine test.  This would bury the hatchet on the question of pregnancy once and for all.

Can vary: A normal cycle can be off by 1-3 days so depending on your stress level, sleep, sexual activity (make sure you aren't pregnant) that should be fine for now.

Let me explain: The most common cause of dark vaginal discharge is the presence of blood in the discharge. In most cases, this is normal and not a cause for alarm. Women frequently have dark vaginal discharge at the end of their menstrual periods and sometimes halfway between periods, during ovulation. Good luck.

Happens: Some doctors grab the cervix with a device that actually makes a small puncture which can cause a little spotting. Should not be a big deal. I preferred devices that grabbed with vacuum without making a puncture.

Needs follow up: It may be normal from implantation, but also may be a miscarriage.  There is also the possibility of an ectopic pregnancy.  Follow up with an OB/GYN.

Late period: If you have been sexually active, check a pregnancy test even though you are having bleeding. Some women have spotting early in their pregnancies. If positive, see OB. If negative, track your cycles on a calendar and if they continue to be irregular, go see your doctor. One irregular cycle isn't anything to worry about. Nobody's period is perfectly regular all the time.

The most common cause of abnormal bleeding is pregnancy.  Other possibilities are infection, trauma with laceration, benign tumors and cancer.
