Cryptorchism: An embryonic abnormality when the testis or both, do not end up in the scrotum. Even after birth, some testes may descend.  They can be high in the scrotum or all the way into the abdomen and not felt.  These are usually found with CAT Scan. Treatment is either "down or out". Meaning, surgically place them down or remove them .  The incidence of cancer of testis in undescended testis is high .

No: Normally, both testicles descend into the scrotum before a baby boy is born. Sometimes only one descends, and doctors have to move the other one down into the scrotum. Occasionally, both testicles do not descend and have to be brought down.

Better when cooler.: Testicles can't produce sperm well when they are at 98.6 like the rest of the body. By descending and staying in the scrotum, they stay cooler and can produce sperm.

: Cremaster muscle is in the scrotal skin not in the testicles. Some people have vey mobile testicles normally. If they are of normal size and do reach the lower end of your scrotum even sometimes-nothing needs to be done. If you are still concerned pl see a Urologist

Yr at latest: The testis are usually down at birth but in some may be delayed. Six months is when I expect late comers to be down, if not by a year I refer them for evaluation. Once they are down they may or may not be evaluated at every checkup. When they approach puberty it is often checked to document proper changes &amp; as part of teaching the kid to do  self exams.

No concern: Most small lumps in the testicle area are small epididymal cysts which are quite common and insignificant. Another less common cause is a scrotolith/scrotal pearl which is a mobile calcification within the inner scrotal sac. Any lump in the scrotal area that is not arising from the testicle itself is invariably benign and just warrants observation for any change in size or associated pain.
