No: Topamax (topiramate) is an antiseizure medicine which has been used for management of various neuropathic or nerve related pain disorders. It is also used in management of migraine.  Typical knee pain is more of a mechanical pain which may not respond adequately to anti-neuropathic pain medications.  If, however, the knee pain is as a result of nerve injury then topamax might a be valid choice.

DJD: By age 50 virtually everyone has signs of degeneration in the anterior compartment of the knee- the patella and tendon,,bursa and ligaments. The important question to ask is what is your  body weight? The knees are sensitive to mechanical loads as the  bodies center of gravity. You reference pregnancy and possible weight gain. If X-rays and exam are normal try a knee sleeve &amp; topical NSAID's.

Many possibilities: Your pain could be as a result of many different things. A thorough history and physical exam and possibly some laboratory and radiology exams are needed to determine the exact cause. Causes of pain may include: trauma (fracture, sprain, arthritis), infection, metabolic conditions (gout), musculoskeletal or biomechanical abnormality and neurologic conditions (neuropathy).

Normal is good: So far, you have not done sufficient damage to show on imaging. That's good - but you are having warnings. Are you overweight? Is your footwear and/or gait correct? Can you try an elastic knee stabilizer and feel relief? Have you seen a chiropractor? Take care of these steps - if it's better - you'll avoid a bad x-ray down the road. Knees are delicate - you are right to take care of them.

Possibly, yes: Tibial plateau fx.'s commonly involve the posterolateral portion of the plateau. If u had an orif here then early chondral wear ( arthritis) could be developing. This is not uncommon esp. If the fracture was intraarticular( went into the joint).Occassionally hardware can become prominent and painful.See your ors for new x-rays and exam.

May be from back: Pain that follows this pattern may be coming from the spine, especially if it radiates bellow the knee.  Your doctor will need more history and a physical exam to know where the pain is coming from for sure.  There are other things that can cause this pattern of pain as well.

knee pain after tramping for hours then going downhill, uphill is fine.  outside of knee horizontal line in middle. as i lift & lower my leg to step down, not when my weight goes on it. how to fix?

Could be: A few things depending upon a history of prior injuries or surgeries, but the discomfort particularly going downhill makes me wonder about the acl (anterior cruciate ligament) and the patellofemoral joint,  makes me suggest you see your doctor for an exam.
