the winter has been wreaking havoc on my skin. the skin on the back of my right hand feels like sand paper and has tiny slits in the skin that are noticeable. i have used raw shea butter and all kind of lotion and oil but it's so dry.

Ceramides: Soak hands in warm or hot water for 10-20 minutes, then rub in a CERAMIDE cream. These include Eucerin, Aveeno, CeraVe, Neutrogena, etc, generics. Look for CERAMIDES in the small print. Anything you want: Skin lotions won't hurt your baby.

Accepted Answer

Any good lotion is : Fine for facial skin, especially if it does not dry, irritate, or cause itching itself. Redness due to irritation and inflammation can be reduced if the irritation and inflammation is reduced, but redness due to emotion (blush) or rosacea will not be affected. Stay out of the sun!

i used cocoa butter lotion on my face and body but i am constantly in the sun, does that make me burn easier? also should i used aloe lotions instead?

Accepted Answer

USE SUNSCREEN: Any kind of oil like cocoa butter will magnify the sun's rays and make you more likely to burn.  You should use a labeled sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 and reapply every 2-3 hours, more often if swimming or sweating.  Aloe will help AFTER you burn, but does little to prevent and it is far better never to burn.

Accepted Answer

Possible: There is no proven scar healer out there that I am aware of, keeping the area clean and soft should help with decreasing the amount of scar build up.  I have always thought that sunblock for the first year on a scar is important to avoid excessive scarring as sun damage can exacerbate a scar.  Most scars overtime though do improve, the body usually does a good job at healing itself.

It doesn't matter: You can use any body lotion after swimming. Find one that you like.

Accepted Answer

Depending on the: product it could be harmless or toxic if swallowed.  The American Association of Poison Control Centers can be helpful 24/7.  They can be reached at  (800) 222-1222. Be prepared to provide them with name of specific product used.

No: There are some bleaching creams, ask your local pharmacist for generic preparation OTC, but you cannot use this indefinitely.

my cousin was on the beach and i found out she used butter as lotion for the sun's rays!  now she is red all over...what damage has happened?

Bad sun burn: Butter will accentuate the damaging rays of the sun. There is evidence that severe sun burn may lead to skin cancer. Tell your cousin to use commercial sun screen and put the butter on her bread.
