i'm recovering from telogen effluvium, that my derm says could be chronic. i know theres not a lot i can do, but are there any products, diets or supplements (aside from biotin and d3) that could be helpful? could 0.05% tretinoin worsen this?

Probably: Many stresses may cause the hair loss including severe psychhological stress--also some meds used for depression (ie depakote) can cause brittle hair and temporary hair thinning.

May not be that: If your hair is continuing to fall out, I would see an endocrinologist or dermatologist. Your thyroid levels should be checked. Your also need to be sure you are not iron deficient (ferritin level). Hormonal levels should also be evaluated.

Telogen effluvium: Because telogen effluvium is a reactive process, which resolves spontaneously, treatment usually is limited to reassurance. Any reversible cause of hair shedding, such as poor diet, iron deficiency, hypothyroidism, or medication use, should be corrected. In our clinic we use B12 shots once a month which helps.

Depends on you: In part this depends on how you got telogen effluvium. Cause shouldn't because they can be triggered by stress, crash dieting, physical trauma such as an automobile accident. surgery with a shock to the system. Certain medicines can also reduce it, you have to look at the long-haul and it comes back to normal over 6 to 9 months

Are they new?: If they weren't in the involved area before, and they are now, then they're likely new.  With telogen effluvium, the initial hair loss in the affected areas is generally complete.
