Tampons: Tampons will stop the blood from flowing out of the vagina as it will be absorbed. That is the benefit of tampons. Inserting something intro the vagina does not stop the menstrual cycle.

Pain: This may be due to a vaginal or urinary infection.  You should see your physician to have a urine test if this continues.

: It could be any number of reasons for the bleeding. A few possibilities include withdrawal bleeding from the birth control pill, trauma or a vaginal  abrasion during sex. If this occurs again your wife should be evaluated by her GYN MD.

No short cuts: even using hormonal therapy will not guarantee that you will not flow, especially if your cycles are heavy. Consult your GYN and use heavy duty pads or tampons.

Periods: I would strongly suggest that you go ahead and have sex with the periods, or you wait till right after the period (use birth control) its not a good idea to mess around with the body hormones just for sex.

Could be yeast: Typical symptoms of a vaginal yeast infection are vaginal itching associated with a thick white clumpy discharge and redness. Over the counter yeast creams are available. If it does not improve then evaluation bu your doctor is warranted.
