i want to know how a rectal temperature taking feels?

Probably not too bad: Rectal temperatures are taken with a small probe or thermometer. If you can imagine what a small glass straw will feel like, you get the idea. It's not large enough to cause too much discomfort.  It's only in there for about a minute.

See below: The most accurate method is rectally. Certainly in an older child, you may not be able to do that. Oral temp in an older child is reliable. And, the temporal artery thermometers are very reliable.

Skin : Dilatation of the skin blood vessels can cause that feeling, as may happen on intake of alcohol.

why is my temperature 97.5?

May be normal: A person who always measures his or her temperature to be 97.5-98.6 degrees when not ill, may be normal at that measurement. At his annual check-up, or at his next blood test, he can ask his doctor to order a thyroid hormone test to be sure it is not low (low thyroid lowers body metabolism/temp.). A person with ill symptoms and lower than usual temp. Should see his doctor soon for an evaluation.

Not if it's real...: It is not ok to have an internal (core) temperature of 96.5 degrees. If a person looks fine and feels fine, the 96.5 is usually an external temperature, or from a thermometer that is reading low.

Med side effect?: Certain medical conditions can cause body temperature to be abnormally low. Low thyroid blood levels, other endocrine abnormalities (especially diabetes, pituitary gland problems and adrenal insufficiency). Also chronic kidney disease. Some medications can also affect body temperature; esprecially antipsychotics.

Hypothermia: This is critically low for any human and would question the manner in which the temperature was being taken.  Very low temps can be as threatening as very high temps.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Warm liquids will artificially warm the mouth, and if an oral temperature is taken the temperature will be artificially elevated.

Rule of thumb is one: Add a degree if taking the temperature under the arm, subtract a degree when taking the temperature rectally.
