Why  double: Both  are  non  sedating  antihistamines   ,  you  ca  take  it  for  5--7  days  but  ctick  with  one  which  helps  you  not  boty.

Yes, but use caution: What are you taking them for is most important. Oral antihistamines can cause drowsiness although Allegra (fexofenadine) does not cross the blood brain barrier. The best treatment is to see an allergist for specific treatment. Also, choose whichever antihistamine works best and you can use this twice daily instead of one of each.

Yes, but why: Zyrtec, Claritin (loratadine) and Allegra are all new generation antihistamines.  While there is no contraindication to taking them on the same day, usually it is not necessary.  If symptoms are not controlled, consider seeing an allergist to identify the trigger---with allergen avoidance, comes less symptoms and less medication!

Similar medicines: All of these medicines are antihistamines. Taking combinations of antihistamines increases the possibility of side effects. If antihistamines are not working at recommended doses see a doctor. You may need a different type of treatment for your problem.

Dose?: Zyrtec & Benadryl (diphenhydramine) are very similar. He should get similar relief if he's taking the right dose for his weight.  Benadryl (diphenhydramine) will make him more drowsy.  You should talk to his doctor about an rx nose spray to control allergies like Flonase or nasonex.

Yes: For non-sedating AH, you can take up to 4x a day.

i took a claritin (loratadine) last night and it didn't help at all. i am severely congested and 19 weeks pregnant. can i take zyrtec or allegra now or wait?

Neither would help: Oral antihistamines do not provide decongestion so it would not have mattered. You may try a nasal steroid but there is only one which is considered category B for pregnancy and requires a Rx.  Do note that you may also have vasomotor rhinitis associated with pregnancy and this may or may not respond to the usual medications. See doctor .

Sure, but . . .: You can certainly take both of the medications together safely, however, they are relatively redundant to each other. I would simply take two doses of one or the other. Furthermore, they last about 24 to 30 hours in your system, so therefore you don't necessarily need to take them spread out during the day. Feel better!!
