This : This should be evaluated, try your physicians office to see if they will take you in today as an emergency, if not try an urgent care facility and as a last resort see an emergency department.  You need to be evaluated since this is increasing in size and it may not be related to the sun.

Keep area clean: Make sure to keep the burned area clean with soap and water. Topical antibiotic ointment will help prevent infection and help with reepithelialization. If the wound does not improve in the next few days, seek medical evaluation.

With medication: 48-72 hrs minimum. What medicine were you given for treatment. 12 hours is too early to see effects of therapy.

To a point...: ..  the acidic environment of the infection can thwart the  anesthetic, but your dentist can still make you comfortable even with the infection. Don't read so much on the internet.. it can get quite confusing. Your dentist has thousands of hours of training and experience, so don't worry.

Apply moisturizer: Swelling is a normal reaction to sunburn and should be treated with topical aloe or aquaphor.  Take  vitamin c 1gram twice a day and consult your doctor if the swelling does not resolve in one week.  Practice better sun protection in the future with many of the available over te counter broad spectrum sun blocks.

Yes: are his feet sunburnt?
make sure you take an icecube and apply it to the sun burnt area .if it is bad or blistered it needs to have a dressing.
make sure you replace his electrolytes with some think like pedialyte
calamine lotion should help with the soothing
next time use a screen with a high SPF

Absolutley: Certainly burned areas of your body can swell. The cells are damaged and then leak fluid causing the swelling. Benadryl won't help because it's not an allergic reaction. It's trauma/damage to the skin cells and an anti-histamine won't help that. Keep cool compresses on affected areas, give Tylenol (acetaminophen) for pain, have him drink lots of fluids. Next time prevention is key with repeated use of sun screen.

Accepted Answer

: It depends on what you consider healed. Pain if any should subside in a day or so. Skin may peal for upto 10 days or so, redness should be gone in a week or two. Pigmentation may persist for months.
