i've used levothroid 17 years, post ablation; its now unobtainable.  generic gives me headaches.  synthroid (thyroxine) led to ab bloating, rapid weight gain, & hypersomnia; any idea why?  what is next?

Adjust the dose: If the dose of thyroid medication is correct, all the available preparations should be about the same.  The "bloating, wt gain" sounds like hypothyroidism, i.e. You were taking too little.  The dose of the new preparation may be different from the dose of Levothroid you were on. Make sure you take the medication on an empty stomach, and not with hot liquids.

Visiting your: Doctor.  In the mean time, consider taking a medicine for gas, and constipation.  Get checked for dm and thyroid disease.

Not common: Skyla has a very tiny amount of Progesterone that acts locally on the lining of the uterus and cervical mucous. The hormone released is so low it does not usually cause symptoms throughout your body. Monitor your progress over the next few months and see it is gets better. If not see your doctor

i have pms. i noticed this & was wondering. is there a difference between bloating and weight gain? i look bigger, but weight is the same.

However, your weight may fluctuate in response to hormone cycles which may be explained by fluid retention aka edema. Birth control pills can be used to treat/prevent PMS.

took plan b 8 days ago and have had some bloating/weight gain. is this a side effect and when would i go back down to my normal weight with reduced bloating?

Weight should drop: back down again. Potential SE’s w emergency contraception: tender breasts; changes in menstrual flow (spotting, bleeding, early or late period or spotting instead of period); loose stools; dizziness; headache; nausea/ vomiting; abdominal discomfort, bloating or feeling tired. If you develop chest tightness, difficulty breathing, swelling of lips, mouth, throat – call 911.

Doubtful: Flucoxacillin, an antibiotic, shouldn't cause weight gain. It, like many medications, can affect digestion and may cause bloating,gastric irritation, or diarrhea.

my wife has always had type 1 on the bristol chart, 1 or 2 pebbles and once a day. doesn't eat large volumes. had a clear colonoscopy. weight gain and bloating. has tried all types of diets and exercise. is it possible her body is absorbing it all?

Gastroenterologist: She most likely has irritable bowel syndrome with subtype of chronic constipation. If the usual remedies of adequate fluid intake, good amounts of fiber and or supplements like psyllium and taking of bowel stimulant combined with stool softener like daily senokotS don't help, consult a gastroenterologist who may prescribe one of the newer medications for her type of irritable bowel syndrome.

Not Likely: Fish oil in small supplements should not cause bloating or subsequent weight gain. It's not likely an allergy as that is caused by the fish protein not the fat derived oil. More likely it's a different food, hormonal change or irritable bowel.
