This is Singulair (montelukast): This is medication that helps allergies and asthma.  It is a leukotriene receptor antagonist.    It is used to reduced inflammation in the lungs and in the sinuses.

Accepted Answer

It may not: Depends on what symptom the treatment is for.  If it is for nightime asthma symptoms, then it should be dosed at night.  For exercise induced asthma, or allergies, taking it at any other time of the day should be fine.  Discuss with the prescribing physician.

: Singulair has been reported to cause emotional and cognitive adverse events.  Earaches and ear infections have been associated.  True ototoxicity and lasting hearing or balance difficulties are NOT listed.

Accepted Answer

Montelukast : Montelukast has been administered at doses up to 200 mg/day to adult patients for 22 weeks and, in short-term studies, up to 900 mg/day to patients for approximately a week without clinically important adverse experiences. I don't recommend that you take more than 10mg at night. There is no indication to go over 10mg.

Advair is used to treat asthma and copd.  Singulair (montelukast) blocks other types of allergic responses and is used to treat seasonal allergies and asthma.

Therapeutic trial: Singulair (montelukast) is indicated for treatment of asthma and nasal allergies. As with all drugs, some people respond better than others. A trial of 1 month is a reasonable period to see if this medication is effective for you.

No: Singulair (generic is montelukast) is a leukotriene receptor antagonist.  That means it blocks the effect of leukotrienes.  These are inflammatory mediators released during an allergic reaction and are 100x more potent than histamines.  There is no antihistamine effect with Singulair.

Complicated: I don't think in an asthmatic patient there is a contraindication of being on singulair (montelukast) and terbutaline, they work by different pathways.  However I do see that in your hx you have high blood pressure and not sure whether terbutaline is a good choice if you have asthma.

None: that we know of, as it doesn't cause dependance

Accepted Answer

Yes: Singulair or montelukast starts to work within one hour of taking a dose.  However, for asthma it will start to work quickly but it will not reach the maximum anti inflammatory effect for 2-3 weeks.
