I would encourage: You to have this injury checked medically. If your last tetanus shot was  more than 10 years ago or you aren't sure when it was, then it is time for another one.  Concerned by your description of finger - would want to rule out infection.

Infection?: This could be a local reaction to the sliver having been in finger. Also could be a sign of infection.

R-I-C-E: Rest it, ice it, immobilize it gently by taping it to the next finger (compression), and keep it elevated.  You can try an Over the counter NSAID like Ibuprofen as well.  Study hard and say your prayers.  Hopefully, you can write with the use of your other fingers if it still aches in the am.

Maybe: Obvious question is did you injure it? If so probably just jammed, and depending on the severity of injury, could be broken. if no injury mechanism then it could be from arthritis causing swelling or decreased blood flow which obviously sounds dangerous, but there benign causes of this. The only way to know is to have it examined by a physician.

Maybe?: You didn't say if you had an injury.  If you did injure your hand and they are blue and swollen, then you need to get this checked out as you could have a fracture.  If you have not had an injury and your fingers are blue and swollen I am even more concerned about what could cause this and you definitely need to get it checked out.
