have quite a big lump of swelling on my left rib cage at the top? it's very soft but it's fast growing, currently have a chest infection as well.

Could be anything?: Soft is usually benign.  Maybe it's a lipoma?

Rule out meningitis: If you have an infection of the respiratory tract, it may spread to other areas. If you can not move your neck, please have meningitis ruled out by your local ED. Other causes may be related to a muscle strain.

can lymph nodes remained permanently enlarged following a bad cold? 5 years ago i had a bad chest infection and the lymph nodes in my neck swelled up to 3.5cm and are still that size. fna was clear and doc said they can remain enlarged permanently?

Accepted Answer

: If the architecture of the lymphnode was changed with fibrosis that may happen also it is possible that recurrent low grade infection or inflammation keeps the lymph node active. However FNA is not 100% the fact that it has not increase and more lymph node formation is reassuring, though there is possibility of mycobacterial infection that may not have been picked up.

i have a really sore back just under the left shoulder and a really bad cough. when i cough the  pain is so bad i could cry is this a chest infection ?

Pleuritic chest pain: This sounds as if the pleura (layers of tissue surrounding the lungs) may be inflamed and you should be seen by a doctor asap.  Go to an er and be evaluated. Will probably need labs and imaging studies.

i have shingles, asthma and recovering from chest infection. now right neck gland sore but not swollen and am very sore to breathe in at neck.

Adenopathy: This is probably a tender lymph node.

been coughing phlegm for 4weeks wouldn't say i have bad chest pain but strain on neck/throat/chest when i cough. could it be a chest infection?

Depends: if fevers/chills could be an infection. If no fever/chills and in no more sputum production likely strain from cough for 4weeks...question is why have you had cough for 4 weeks

Neck popping: I do not know what you mean by node tenderness in upper chest. The only nodes in upper chest are inside the chest. Happy to do 2nd opinion to better get to the problem.

No.: By chest infection i assume you mean pneumonia ( although even if you meant "infection in the chest" the answer remains the same).  The answer is no.

if i have throat and chest infection or maybe bronchitis.. what can i eat?! fruits? a sandwich? idk what can i eat.. didn't eat for the past 3 days.

Anything: Sometimes people are sensitive to cold when they have upper respiratory infection and get sob when doing so. If you don't have any problem, swallowing ok, keep yourself healthy to go thru this, eat all that you can as long as healthy food.

when i get a cold i have loads of cattargh run down back of my throat. i can't find a way to stop this and it often results in chest infection. help?

Post nasal drip: Use saline nose drops4 times a day. Keep your vaporizer on. Take antihistamines before bedtime. Sleep on several pillows.
