i got a really bad sunburn on my lips and they blistered and are now starting to scab. should i peel off the scab, its a yellow/golden color.

NO: Leave the scab you can put on an emollient that helps retain water like aquaphor or cetaphil but peeling the scab could peel away healthy tissue making a risk for a scar. If they become painful , blister with a foul odor or puss then see a doctor.

Peeling may injure: You. Keep sunburn cool w moist cool/cold compresses.  Avoid alcohol containing products.  Break off pieces of aloe vera plant ; apply sap to skin.  Consider non-steroidal anti-inflammatory meds to reduce pain.  Don’t yank off peeling skin or burst blisters. Seek med care for severe pain, fever, lack of improvement of sxs w/i several days or if a large surface area is blistered. Drink h2o.

Avoid further damage like scratching as this causes scarring . Good skin cream applied daily/gently helps.

Unappealing peeling: Avoid getting sunburnt [use/reapply SPF 15, wear hat, be careful during prime barbecue hours 10 am-2 pm]. If you're already burnt, you can: avoid more sun for at least 1-3 days. Take Aspirin [if over 12 years old], or Ibuprofen to reduce inflammation. Apply moisturizers, aloe vera. Soothe your skin [calamine lotion, oatmeal bath]. Drink lots of water. Try not to scratch. Products?: Ate you using any skin care products on your face?  Many times, a retinoid like retin a, (tretinoin) etc. Will cause drying of the skin and peeling.  If that is the case, you may want to use a stronger moisturizer or cut the use of the retinoid back to 3 times a week.  See a dermatologist to get on a good regimen.

Aloe Barbadensis: (aloe vera) can v redness, pain, itching ; swelling from burns. It has anesthetic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial ; antifungal qualities. It speeds burn healing by stimulating new skin growth. V pain by placing cool, moist compresses on skin. Nsaid's ; Acetaminophen can help. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) can be used for itching. Hydrate well ; don't peel off deep layers. See dr for severe burns.
