can staring at a computer cause tension in the back of head (occiput)? i have tension in back of head and dizziness. normal ct. massage not effective

Occipital neuralgia: The greater and lesser occipital nerves live in the back of the head on both sides. The lesser nerve runs towards your ear and the greater nerve runs to top of back of your head. These occipital nerves can be aggravated without any trauma. Tilting head back can cause dizziness if these nerves are aggravated. 7 days or oral steroid or 5 days of Toradol may knock out this irritation to these nerves.

would a brain tumor cause painful throbbing spot on lower right side occiput? normal neuro exam but the ha are every week and im worried. also feel like right ear is stopped up but no congestion. sometimes ha moves to temples and sides of head.

Possibly: Yes, brain tumors can cause headaches!
The good thing is that “statistically speaking”, they are pretty low down on the list as the vast majority of headaches, probably over 99%, are due to other reasons.  However, if it’s been going on for awhile and are bothering you... you should have an imaging study (MRI or CT scan of head).. to exclude this possibility!... good luck, and hope you find relief

Yes: Tmj/tmd has many symptoms, but your issues should be evaluated because it could just be tmd/tmj, or possibly from another trigger or both.

in a car, i was looking out the window, when suddenly we passed over a bump and my head hit the back of the seat hardly, while still turned facing the window. this caused a snap sound in my head and it aches .note my posture is bad?

: A whiplash strain of neck muscles is likely. Hopefully symptoms will be mild.   If neck discomfort &amp; stiffness worsen over the next day or so.treatment is applying alternating cold&amp;hot applications, taking anti-inflammatory meds like ibuprofen, wearing a soft neck collar as needed. Your MD is best to examine and advise you if there's significant neck discomfort.

It depends: the degree of injury would depend on how much force there was in the blow and the persons health. It could range from annoying pain to death.

May be normal: Up to 10% of normal infants have a rose colored patch  skin at the centralized at the nape of the neck. As a birthmark it is of no importance and will potentially remain visible throughout life. If you are concerned it is something else please discuss it at your next doc visit.

One's Dr. can check: Most people get a headache at some time, such as from colds, infections, lack of sleep, too much driving, long hours on the computer, stress at work, etc... Over-the-counter options include Tylenol (acetaminophen), Motrin, Advil, Aleve, Excedrin, and generic brands. A bad or increasing headache, recurrent headache, weird headache, or with other worrisome symptoms should be examined by a doctor.

Muscles and Nerves: Typically either side of neck and head are provided sensation by nerves that supply them exiting out of the neck and head.  Muscles also lying in that area may be the issue as well.  If there is a history of neck pain that should be evaluated since there could be arthritis, nerve impingement or herniated disks involved.  History of head trauma could also result in this pain as well.
