Psychoactive medicat: Medications used for control &amp; treatment of mental illnesses vary and as such their side effect profile will vary. Difficulty retrieving words and stuttering refer to the nervous system. How about better?: Would you be into trying to figure WHY you are suffering from major depression, social anxeity, and stuttering?  Nowadays, stuttering may actually have a neurological substrate to it and not be exclusively due to psychiatric/psychological issues as previously thought...so maybe imaging of the brain is worthwhile.  But other than that....how about COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY (CBT) before drugs?

Needing evaluation: In America, each public school district is responsible for evaluating any child in its service area, and helping that child succeed in school. That said, by the time a student is in high school, schools seem much less interested in providing speech evaluations and therapy. Go get both separate evaluations:  free one by the school speech person, and one by an outside speech pathologist (not free).

Partly: Stuttering is more common in boys, and a strong family history has been noticed in those who continue to stutter over 6 months.  Transient (developmental) stuttering is very common in children aged between 2 and 5 when language acquisition is fast.  The children who stutter over 6 months, repeat part or whole word, avoid talking, should be referred to specialist.

Diff for Each person: Go watch "the king's speech" dvd and watch the special features. Churchill also stuttered and helped himself.  It is often worse with nerves and anxiety, and interestingly many stutterers don't do it when they sing.  It takes focus, determination, time and guidance, and usually working with somebody (speech therapist) with experience in helping others with same or similar problems.
