If it's a baby or a toddler, you can't, so stop worrying about it.  A baby who needs to suck will suck, and almost all grow out of it. If it's an older child try a system of rewards for not sucking, like gold stars or a desirable toy.

Slow extinction: You really can't "make" them stop, but you can start by incentivizing them to stop. Painting fingernails for instance, so they don't want to destroy the pretty image. Or working with them to go perhaps a morning without sucking, and if they do they get a sticker. Get enough stickers and they get a small prize. Usually the social group will get rid of it with peer pressure.

Stop worrying : Some people do this. It is not going to harm you in any way. Quite a few folks do this compulsively while they are awake — it seems to be in the brain wiring and you cannot simply stop. This can be embarrassing. There’s online resources for this. If you only do it in your sleep, it’s your business, and if you have a decent partner, she will have enough sense not to try to change you.
