Yeast?: A yeast infection is the best bet for symptoms like these. You could safely try one of the many OTC vaginal yeast treatments, anything with active ingredient ending in "azole" (clotrimazole, miconazole, etc). All are equally effective; you can choose the least expensive. Use the cream both in the vagina and on the irritated external area. If no response after a few days, see your doctor.

Various causes: Female sexual pain can be difficult to diagnosed. The causes can be varied and numerous. Does the pain occur at the beginning of penetration or with deep pelvic thrusting? Location of pain? Causes may include infection, PID, nerve damage, pelvic muscle dysfunction, bladder or bowel inflammation, endometriosis, etc. See you doctor for a detailed history and physical exam.

Irritation: You need a pelvic exam and gyn evaluation. I would advise you to abstain from vaginal intercourse for a minimum of 7-10days:  this can be inflammation, infection ( bacterial or viral) or related to friction.
