5 days.: Sinus infections are tough to treat because the blood supply to the sinuses is poor (the arteries are small).  It may take 5 days of antibiotics before you start to see some change in the color of the mucus.  If no change at all, call your doc  If you are only 50% better by the time you finish the antibiotic, it means it's working, but you need a second course to kill all the rest of the germs.

Commensals: Without white cells on a smear, very likely these are harmless microbes that just happened to be living there.

Talk to doc!: A very good question!  Ask your doc why he has you on this medication if the bacteria is resistant to it.  If you are not happy with his/her explanation, ask for a second opinion.

Maybe but less likel: Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) is an immunomodulator and can certainly increase the chance for certain infections. I don't think it is a very significant amount of increase though. On the other hand, Stenotrophomonas tend to be seen in individuals that have had recurrent exposure to different antibiotics. I would guess you might have had recurrent sinusitis (or other infections) where you were treated with abx.

Lab test and result: Gram stain is applied with an eye dropper to a slide and taken up by the bacterial.  It  affects the way bacteria present in concentrated urine appears under the microscope. Non gonococcal urithritis is a type of urinary tract infection caused by a bacteria other than gonococcus. (e coli for example as seen in the photo i posted).

This could be normal: Bacteria are classified, broadly, as being gram-negative or gram-positive (retains violet dye color after staining--gram stain-- a lab slide with specimen on it). And either being rod (cylindrical/barrel shaped) or spherical (cocci) when viewed under a microscope. Gram negative rods are very common in the genital tract, and it sounds like you don't have too many. I say probably normal. Good wishes

MRSA: Because there is an epidemic happening in the world. MRSA lesions are abscesses. Sitting at home with an abscess is unwise.  MRSA has  an appearance that is classic. And this classic appearance is described nearly identically by patients in my office, by email, online, and by the phone. Regular skin cellulitis or staph is not described as bites. Go to the doctor. Let them examine and test you.

Gram stain: You don't mention what the specimen is but I'm guessing it's a sputum sample?  Looks like mixed flora, probably normal oropharyngeal flora, pretty nonspecific.

Gram positives include staph and strep, while gram negatives include e. Coli. The stain has been in use for around 150 years and remains the most popular in bacteriology.
