Causes: Depends on your history. If you have irregular periods it could be due to overthickening/accumulation of the lining of the uterus. Could be due to polyps of the endometrium of the uterus, or to ovarian cyst, or fibroids.

So long as you're late (and actually you are SUFFICIENTLY late) you run an excellent chance of getting a positive result if you're pregnant and a negative result which will virtually mean you're NOT pregnant.

Maybe, but...: Many women have occasional variation of their mucus discharge, some spotting between periods, a heavier period, a lighter period, a longer or shorter period, or even a missed period.  Having one or two of these symptoms doesn’t necessarily mean there is a medical problem, but a visit to one’s primary care or Ob-Gyn doctor is a good idea if symptoms are persistent, recurring, or worrisome.
