Breast exam: Anytime one notices a new mass, lump, bump or skin change in the breast it is very important to have this evaluated by a doctor who can help determine if any work up or testing is needed. Breast pain can be from hormonal changes, weight changes, dietary changes, cysts, changes in exercise patterns, ill fitting bras and others.

Yes: Yes is common and normal for most women.  This is due to fibrocystic changes that occur due to natural hormonal changes that occur.  You can see other posts on fibrocystic breasts.

Fibrocystic changes: You could have fibrocystic changes. This is the most common cause of breast pain.  It can be aggravated by caffeine, stress, menstrual cycle and hormonal supplements. If you are over 40, then you should have a mammogram and ultrasound.  Please get evaluated by a breast specialist.

Can happen..: With birth control hormones you may experience this type of symptoms. Most of the time your body gets adjusted and they resolve. With many hormonal contraceptive some spotting may happen and it is very common. I suggest that you wait one or two menstrual cycles and see how it goes. However, if symptoms are severe get seen with your GYN provider for possible change of birth control option.

you are ovulating !: Though these signs could be due to many things, the most likely cause is ovulation (release of the egg)  some women do this every month but most only do so occasionally. If you get your period-or have a positive pregnancy test- in 14 days, it will confirm this likely exxplanation.

Pregnancy?: You may be pregnant. Spotting during early pregnancy is not that unusual. I suggest you obtain a test kit

When in doubt: just check pregnancy test in 2 weeks and repeat if negative in 1 week.  And if you are still not bleeding normally and pregnancy test was negative, check it again in 1 week. If you had unprotected intercourse  near your last ovulation date then you were in the danger zone.  Other things could cause breast soreness but with irregular periods, pregnancy must be ruled out first.

Some thoughts...: Pregnancy is a common cause of a missed period. If not pregnant, other reasons for a late or missed period include:  a random occurrence, excessive weight loss or gain, increased exercising, emotional stress, having an illness, traveling, medicines (such as birth control pills), hormonal disorders, etc…  A visit to one’s doctor is a good idea if symptoms are persistent, recurring, or worrisome.

2 day medium period on 2/16 plus 7 days brown spotting.  still having cramping, sore breasts/low back. not on bc..neg tests. today is 2/25. confused?

Irregular periods: Irregular periods are very common. If you normally have regular periods and then suddenly have one that is early or late this usually gets better on its own with cycles returning to normal over the next few months.  If you are not wanting to be pregnant you should discuss birth control which will also help with cycle control.
