Spare the rod: Antiquated form of discipline.  Beating children into good behavior is not acceptable.  Children do need firm limit setting to help define good behaviors.  Rewards for good behavior can be helpful.  Limits need to be reinforced firmly and consistently.

SPOILED CHILD: It depends on the child. Some grow up appreciative of the love and care of the parents. Others  get what they want all the time. Their future depends on how responsible the person is.

Child:  Well unless you are certified mental health diagnostician, I don't know that I would tell her that her son has a conduct disorder. However, you might want to let her know of your concerns and encourage her to have her son evaluated by a developmental psychologist, child psychologist or a child psychiatrist to see if he has a conduct disorder or other possible behavioral issues.

The term is relative: From a kids perspective, the first year we teach them we will respond to them when they cry and do what it takes to keep them happy.This creates their expectation that they deserve it always. Their speech and language skills progress rapidly as todlers, but unfortunately, they don't think like adults.Avoid applying adult intent to self indulgent behavior. Your pediatrician or behaviorist can help.

See Peds Dr: Too many options: food choice; food allergy; other allergy; virus or other infectious; depending on age-could be congenital issue; stress/anxiety; etc., etc. Best to start w/child's pediatrician for good history & exam +/- basic tests.

Picky eaters: Picky eating habits will drive most parents crazy.At 2yr their growth rate has slowed to ~5lb/3inch/yr which is much slower than earlier.Feeding matches need. Most feed well 4days a month & nibble the rest.Single item days are common(breads, vegies, etc) & a balanced week is more common than a balanced meal. If you only offer nutritious choices, they will get what they need.Discuss with your dr too.

Pediatric cancer ctr: If your child has acute leukemia, the must be treated at a center which 1) has a major focus on pediatrics 2) which extends to pediatric oncology 3) and which participate in cooperative clinical trials. These are usually academic centers but there are a few community hospitals which have these specialties and participate in children's oncology group (cog) and nih sponsored trials.This is important.

Most anything.: An 8 month old should not have whole cow's milk due to a risk of intestinal blood loss and anemia. He should not have anything that he could choke on, really anything that requires chewing. We used to think that it was better to wait until a child was older to give more allergenic foods like eggs, peanut butter, or fish, but we now believe that allergies are more common if you wait.

Need more info: What specifically are you asking when you say options?  You can elect to have a c-section without trying to deliver vaginally (not that i think that is the best thing).
