Sunscreen: If you would like to prevent your skin from getting darker make sure to apply sunscreen everyday and throughout the day. Make sure not to go out into the sun between 10-4, and wear sun-safe clothing. I hope this helped :].

Without more: ...information, I can't give you much in return.   In general, a rash which "comes out of nowhere" comes out of somewhere.  Allergic reactions such as contact dermatitis and hives can do this.  Also, irritation from soaps, detergents, hot water, clothing etc. can cause intermittent splotchy redness of the skin.  If you can figure out a pattern, that may help narrow down the cause.  Dr. Anne.

Picture helps: But many supplements can cause hyperpigmentation. Also eczema if a little red can then turn brown due to sun exposure. I would see your dermatologist and also recommend you always wear sunscreen. Other considerations include fungal infections can turn dark with sun, but with correct topicals they will clear,

i just went on vacation and as i tanned i noticed some splotchy spots on my arms and stomach, what could this be caused by,  what can i do to stop it?

Tinea Versicolor: The yeast overgrowth that caused the "rash" was probably there before you tanned and looks worse because the dermatophyte that causes the infection blocks the pigment.  You should see a dermatologist to get proper treatment.

Sunblock moisturizer: Many people use over-the-counter moisturizers that contain sunscreen. Avoiding exposure to the sun will let skin lighten up. However, one should take extra vitamin d to make up for not getting vitamin d from the sun. Although having tanned skin from sun exposure is not a medical illness, there are a few uncommon hormonal medical conditions that can cause skin darkening.

Sunscreen: Exposure to the sun can increase the risk for skin cancer later on.  Anyone spending a significant amount of time in the sun would benefit from applying sunscreen with the highest SPF (sun protection factor) available, preferably above SPF30.  This also can protect against sun tanning, and allows skin to return to its non-sun-exposed color naturally.

Fifths disease: A red splotchy rash of the arms is usually accompanied by the same blotchy rash on the legs and a slapped face effect in children who have fifths disease . Since I have no picture i can only go by your description.

Skin is irritated: The skin had bit completely healed yet, and the it got exposed again. Moisturize the skin with something like Vaseline intensive cream, and avoid tanning or sun for  a week. Use some SPF when tanning. Depending on the skin type u have, depends on how much SPF u will require. Fair skin tends to require more.
