Yes: This is a common area where bug bites or hair follicles may become breeding grounds for staph or other germs that will form an abscess. If you can sit on a heating pad for an extended period or over several hours you may get it to raise to the skin and drain.If not, it may need to be drained by your doc.

Soft tissue lump: This is most likely a lipoma but it is best to have it examined by your PCP to confirm.  Dependent on where it is located on the buttock - pressure from sitting can sometimes cause the wound to open so that more permanent(nonabsorbable) sutures would be used to try to keep this from occurring.  If it is less then 3-4 cm then it typically can be closed with an absorbable suture.

Hard to tell...: ...would need more detail or a picture.  given how long it's been there, my best guess is either a sebaceous cyst (not dangerous although at times they can become infected), or a lipoma (a collection of fat cells, not dangerous).  you should be evaluated by a doctor if the lump is tender, is draining fluid, and/or is warm to touch.  particularly if it is located right next to your anus.

I do not know: At your age, cancer would be unlikely, but the definitive diagnosis is made with a biopsy. Sounds more like a sebaceous cyst or a lipoma, but as stated, see the Dr. and get a therapeutic excisional biopsy. Best wishes.

Pilonidal cyst?: I suspect a collection of pus under the skin.This requires a visit to a dr as this can be serious.Other causes (even more scary) are possible.Please see a dr asap.

Rare: The majority of lesions that develop in the buttock are lipomas from the fat present.  These are non tender and usually just under the skin.  In rare instances sarcomas develop which are firm lesions, can grow relatively quickly and are usually large when identified because there are deeply seated.  If such is present a bx is indicated followed by a radical gluteal resection to  encompass  it.

Cysts: if not painful could be sebaceous cysts due to pressure. Avoid tight pants and try to avoid sitting on them until these disappear.

Abscess: He may have an abscess. Take him to his pediatrician. He may want to lance the infection or give you antibiotics.
