Constipation: Small sized stool round in shape means it has been sitting in the colon for a long time and all the water is absorbed and has formed pebbles. Diarrhea caused by stool softner is probably water flowing around impacted stool. Have to cleanse the bowel. Avoid white flour, meat and use more green vegetables and fruits. Drink a lot of water. Treat constipation aggressively. See the dr. If not better.

Specs in Stool: "coffee grounds" usually refers to vomit containing blood.  Black specs mixed in with stool most likely food.  Bananas in stool- usually have a black spec appearance.  Another possibility is chewed crayon.  Usually blood in stool looks red or can make stool look dark green or black. If stools are loose or diarrhea with blood contact your child's pediatrician.

Too much coffee?: Dark-colored stools may result from iron supplements, foods you eat (like a lot of spinach), substances (like peptobismol), but most significantly suggests bleeding. When blood is denatured by acid in your stomach, as from ulcers, stools will turn tarry ("melena"). Blood may also be ingested from nose bleeds, bleeding gums... Persistent melena (without obvious cause) ; symptoms warrants md visit.

Yes: Dark-tarry stools can be a sign of bleeding in your GI tract.  You are having pain/symptoms after having your gallbladder removed is concerning.  Minerals, foods(blueberries,black licorice), medications, iron supplements, and Pepto-Bismo can cause dark stools also. I strongly recommend calling your surgeon and/or primary care doctor for an immediate evaluation or going to your local emergency room
