Of course the experience of the surgeon will have a great influence on this.  Ask to see some before and after photos, but bear in mind that the long-term results will depend a great deal on how you care for your teeth and gums.

Soft : Soft tissue grafts are done to cover exposed roots. It is a very common periodontal procedure. Some of the modern techniques are less invasive and allow you to recover very fast. You can experience some swelling the 1st 3 days, minor pain that can be well controlled with pain medication. The recovery period is usually 1 week. The result is totally worth it to protect and maintain your teeth for life!

See below: Alloderm is cadaveric (from a deceased person) dermis (the deep layer of the skin).  It is processed and sterilized so it is virtually impossible to catch a disease from it.  The surgeon will prepare the site for the grafting with incisions and then suture the alloderm into place.  Often, a protective dressing will be placed along with post-operative pain medications and anitbiotics.

(Very) expensive: The cost of surgical graft varies with the type of material and size of the mesh. Small pieces of synthetic mesh costs hundreds of $$; bio absorbable mesh costs thousands and the largest pieces can be as expensive as a small car.

The : The concern is how fast the bleeding stops.  A small amount of bleeding is of no concern. Generally, pressure is the way to stop bleeding.  The donor site on the roof of the mouth will not be harmed by pressure, if the recipient site is the issue, don't touch it without talking to your dentist.

ST grafting: Yes, in some cases periodontists cannot restore lost tissue with bone and soft tissue grafting. With loss of bone, the gum tissue follows.  Lost cells are not replaced.
