Lochia: The dicharge that comes out in the first few weeks is called lochia. If you feel that it is abnormal or overly smelly you could schedule a visit for testing.

Old blood: usually a mixture of blood with cervical and vagiinal mucous. I f you have had any unprotected intercourse , please consult your GYN. You can clean yourself out using a baking soda/sterile water ,disposable douche twice a week.

"Period" blood smell: If the bleeding is bright red and not dark, then there was a probable vaginal or cervical injury that produced the bleeding. If the bleeding is dark like a period(venous type bleeding) then the "smell" doesn't matter only if the timing of the bleeding indicates that a period should be "coming down the tracks" a this time. Please use contraception in the future to avoid unwanted future "trains".

Not likely: If her nose were bleeding internally it would appear in her mouth. She probably has some rawness that may be causing the smell. Also make sure she doesn't have a foreign object stuck in her nose. use a salt water nose spray to get out dried blood and also help prevent future nose bleeds
