Bacterial vaginosis?: This is a very common symptom, nothing to be embarrassed about. The usual cause of increased vaginal odor is bacterial vaginosis, an overgrowth of mostly normal bacteria. BV odor typically is fishy, as you have noticed, and sometimes there is increased discharge. Trichomonas and other STDs are more common in BV, so have an STD check. This should be easy to diagnose and treat; see your doctor soon.

2nd opinion needed: Your wife needs to see a GYN MD for a 2nd opinion as we almost never advocate the use of a commercial douching product for an abnormal odor from the vagina. An assessment for a vaginal infection will be done first and foremost as douching can actually cause more harm to the vaginal pH sometimes worsening the presumptive bacterial infection.

Bacterial Vaginosis?: You probably have an infection.  The most likely would be  Bacterial Vaginosis.   Trichomonas or a yeast infection would be other possibilities. Could be normal: Start with a daily bath, wash the area with soap and water.  Wear cotton underwear to let the area breathe.  If symptoms remain troublesome please see your pediatrician or gynecologist.
