Swelling goes away: Rather quickly, likely within a few weeks. But the nerve injury would need several month if not one to two years to recover.

Yes: The nail bed is covered in old blood that alone would not be a concern but with foul odor implies tissue destruction and infection. Needs to be properly evaluated by your doctor.

Direct pressure: Put pressure on the bleeding area with your other hand.  Use something absorbtive to soak up the blood.  You have both hands occupied now have someone drive you to urgent care or er to see if it needs stitches or other treatment.

Get it checked...: Glomus tumor can because discoloration and sensitivity. It's usually very cold sensitive. Typically occur beneath the nail. X-rays can be helpful, but sometimes an MRI is necessary.

See surgeon: You have a lump under the nail that is from blood under the nail. If it is still liquid a surgeon can poke a hole in the nail to let it out. Otherwise he/she may need to remove all or part of the nail to clean it out
