Small stools: These small and marble sized stools are usually a sign of sluggish bowels. The remedy is to make sure you drink adequate fluids daily, eat good amounts of fiber like bran, fruits and vegetables and,if necessary, take fiber supplements like metamucil daily. If you note  persistent constipation, take senokot, (senna) which has a softener and stimulantThese measures should produce more bulk and normal stools

Fiber and hydration: You should consider increasing your fiber intake and should drink enough water daily so that your urine is mostly colorless. You may take a fiber laxative like Metamucil for increase your intake of fiber foods. Consult this site for fiber foods.

Mucus on stool: Mucus discharge occurs in up to 50% of patients with irritable bowel syndrome, with or without pain. Mucus may also be produced in response to partial obstruction, chronic constipation, rectal dysfunction, infection, &amp; even from secretory villous tumors of the rectum, among others. Consider evaluation please.

Black stool: Black stool can occur due to iron supplementation or due to bleeding in upper GI tract, latter known as melena. You should have this evaluated by your physician. The small balls are usually indication of constipation.

Need oral laxative?: Each child with constipation needs to be sure there is no other disease causing it. A pediatrician's evaluation is needed. We do not want a child to get chronic constipation. If constipation is due to slow movement of food and poop through the gut, then things to try are vegetables, water, prune juice, prunes, fiber-plus-water, Miralax (polyethylene glycol), senna extract, milk of magnesia, etc...

Drink water : When you start eating healthy  with increased fiber intake it causes  constipation so it is critical to have enough water intake make sure you  drink 8 - 10 glasses of water daily   soda and juices and coffee do not count towards the daily water intake keep up the  good  healthy habit  you  have started it will be good for you in the long run i hope that helped.

Have to see it: Hi! Small amount of mucus in stool can be normal.  Rectal/anal candidiasis would give you other symptoms. If this issue persists, it would be most helpful if you see a doctor and bring a sample of stool with you (in a small clean jar, can keep tightly closed in fridge for 3-5 days).

Not enough fiber?: Often patients feel they are taking in enough fiber, but may not be getting the right type, amount, or mix of the above.  Consider taking a psyllium husk supplement such as Konsyl or Metamuci (generic available).   If this still is causing trouble, consider seeing a GI doc or Colorectal Surgeon. 
Sitting in a warm bath tub can help relax this sensation at times.  Meditation and yoga can also help.
