h idoctors. i am a 62 year-old male. i feel what seems to be a small lump near my left nipple but seems to be extremely intermittent---sometimes i can feel it and at other times it seems to disappear. what could this be? what type of dr should i see?

Doctor can examine: One's primary care doctor can evaluate. Lumps and bumps in the breast area are best examined by a doctor because of the possibility of breast cancer. Teen boys and men can have breast buds (about 1/2 to 1 inch wide) under one or both nipples. Men can have breast cancer, but it is quite rare. Women with any breast symptoms must rule out cancer.

Wait: It could be something as simple as a skin imitation  but if gets warm or reddened seek medical attention. You might try just some warm compresses for now and see if that helps. If not improving in a week get examined .

Needs eval: Any new breast finding, including skin changes should be evaluated by your doctor.  Mammogram and ultrasound evaluations are also routine for new findings, particularly for skin changes to determine if the change is only a skin finding or has a deeper component.

Possible cyst: Cyst are quite common in this area.  Most dermatologists will do a visual exam and if the lesion isn't obviously a cyst, they will do a biopsy.
