Many possibilities: If red & painful, we worry about abscess (pus pocket) or ingrown hair or pimple or infected sebaceous cyst. If not red and not painful, then could be uninfected sebaceous cyst or lipoma (fatty tissue), possibly even lymph node (don't know where on chest you're referring) as long as it is freely mobile and not fixed/hard/matted down. Best to check w/your family doc for evaluation.

lately i've found somewhat large hard lumps on both sides of my chest and small puss filled bumps on my areolas. is this normal?

Staph: You may have a mild staff infection I would try using an antiseptic soap if this does not improve I would let a physician see it and give you a definitive diagnosis

Family practice : It is probably an infected hair follicle or clogged pore. If it persists get it checked out. Possibly in need for antibiotics.

The most common: brown skin lesion is a seborrheic keratosis...a benign lesion which appears to be "stuck on" the skin. If it is more like a lump it is likely a different benign growth...a dermatofibroma. It probably represents a fibrous or scar like reaction to minor trauma/insect bites. Flatter brown spots are nevi/moles, and, as you know there are dangerous ones..melanoma skin cancer. If ?'s, have Doc check:)

Hard bump: It may be an epidermal inclusion cyst . They are firm and moveable just below the skin. If it is enlarging or painful see a dermatologist.

Family practice : It is probably an infected hair follicle. He may need antibiotics but sometimes they will clear up like a pimple. But they can progress and become a boil or abscess.

Possible: Chest congestion and other viral syndromes can cause local lymph node enlargement which is an indication that your body is fighting an infection. It's usually located close to the site of indection. Usually these are painful. If this doesn't resolve once your congestion improves then it requires further workup.

Poss. epidermal cyst: It could be an epidermal cyst, but it could be a lot of other things as well. I would suggest that you have your doctor or a dermatologist look at it personally, and give you a definitive diagnosis.

Probably a rib: It is possible to pop a rib out of joint from the sternum (your breast bone).  However, if the bump is new, it'd probably be worth your time to have a doctor lay hands on it to confirm my suspicion.
